Some of you may know me, some of you may only have heard of me, and others may have no idea who I am, or what I represent. Allow me to introduce myself to you all. I am,
· A homeowner, and resident of Jackson Heights for some 20+ years
· An immigrant who came to this country with hopes and dreams for a better life for myself, and my family
· A product of the NYC Public School system
· Proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran
· A retired NYPD Sergeant
· A proud single parent of one, and grandfather of three
· A previous independent small business owner/operator in Jackson Heights
· Former PTA President at Intermediate School 145
· President of my co-op board for 7 years
· President of the SELFHELP/NORC Advisory Board
· Former President of the Jackson Heights Co-Ops Alliance
· Served as Vice President of the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL)
Our elected and appointed politicians are continually ignoring us, while louder, better-funded, voices have been able to implement changes without input or even notices to residents. We must demand transparency and responsiveness from our politicians – and we must have a seat at the table. Our voices matter and must be heard.
I pledge now, that if you, the voters, choose me, I will be transparent in my actions, and responsive to your concerns. I will also demand similar transparency and responsiveness from those City funded and/or partnered organizations who work in our district.
Everyone has a right to safety of their person, their home, and their businesses. We cannot allow the random crime on our streets, in our businesses, and on mass transit to go unchecked. We must support our local police.
as someone who owned and operated a small business here in Jackson Heights on 37th Avenue, I know the demands and the pressures associated with owning a small business. Our small businesses are the lifeblood of any community. We need to work together, and support our small businesses so we can continue to have the amazing diversity we currently have in our district.
Every student in every school needs to have the same access to resources regardless of zip code, and regardless of background or immigration status. As an immigrant myself, I know that a good education is essential. We need to make sure that our current, and future students have every resource needed.
I have always advocated for our seniors and disabled, and I will continue to do so. Whether it’s about getting services, equal protection, access to mass transit, etc., we must ensure that our seniors and disabled New Yorkers receive equal treatment and protections.
While you will hear I am “anti-Open Streets”, this like some other claims made against me by some, is absolutely false. Unlike the OS advocates, and their backers, I can see that while there are benefits, there are also legitimate concerns that are consistently ignored. Do I think there needs to be changes and compromises made with how Open Streets is currently operating on 34th Avenue? Yes – and I also think those changes, those compromises need to include input from the residents, who have consistently been ignored. That must change.
As a proud openly, gay Latino man, I have worked with, and volunteered to help our LGBTQIA+ youth and seniors. Whether you are 15 or 75, no one should feel marginalized, forgotten, or alone.
Your support and contributions will enable us to print palm cards and other literature so we can amplify our WRITE-IN RICARDO PACHECO campaign!
